Lowrey Piano History

Lowrey is an organ manufacturer which began making organs in Chicago in 1956. They are known for their electronic features that were very popular in the 1960-80's and featured in the Beatles music as well as other popular artists. During this time Lowrey made a few pianos, although this was not the focus of their business.

In 1963 they became part of the Story & Clark piano company, with pianos continuing to be produced with the Lowrey name until 1989. The Lowrey piano is no longer in production today.

Interesting fact: prior to their full scale organ manufacturing, Lowrey sold a device called the Organo, which allowed "one to play organ tunes from an acoustic piano."
