Krakauer Piano History

The original Krakauer piano is another American made instrument that began in New York in 1896 by Simon Krakauer and son David. Later joined by a Julius Krakauer, it was located in New York City until 1977, when Howard Graves purchased the company and relocated to Ohio. By 1980, the Kimball company bought the rights to the name, however by 1996 the company closed its doors.

In the early 2000's, it was common for many of the old piano names to be produced once more by Chinese manufacturers, and the popularity of the piano grew exponentially in China. Also, the Chinese imported instrument became less costly then the American made piano. At this time, the Krakauer piano was produced by the same company that produced the Breitmann piano. Today, however, the Krakauer piano is no longer produced.
