Zimmermann Piano History
The company began in 1884, one of the several piano companies originating in Leipzig, Germany, by two brothers; Max and Richard Zimmermann. It continued to be a vital part of the musical community in Leipzig until WWII, when the factories were destroyed, and the company became part of the East German State. The pianos continued to be manufactured through 1992 as part of the VEB Deutsche Piano Union, at which time C. Bechstein Piano purchased the company and began producing both the Bechstein and the Zimmermann pianos there. Today, the pianos are made in China.
